MOUNT A FLASH DRIVE

To mount a fat-formatted usb flash drive (located at /dev/sda1, the most likely location) AND make writable:
mkdir /mnt/sda1
mount -w /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1

At least, this should work... key word should...

However, if it doesn't, try right-clicking its desktop icon and changing the read/write on it. Doing this should enable the writability.

USE KNOPPIX AND A FLASH DRIVE TO COPY HARD DRIVE CONTENTS

Say you're on a laptop and can't boot into windows. You want to wipe out your hard drive, but have some documents you wish to copy off it first. One idea is, of course, to have one of those adapters and pull out the hard drive, hook it up to another computer, and whammo, direct disk to disk copy.

Nah. Easier way:

1. Boot off Knoppix CD.
2. Plug in Flash drive.
3. Make flash drive writable.
4. Copy hard drive items onto flash drive.
5. Shut down system, remove Knoppix CD and Flash drive.

You can then copy contents of flash drive to another hard disk, say, on another computer...
