What People Are Saying About The RLTF

2007 and 2008 were huge successes, not only due to the efforts of our volunteers and sponsors, but also because of the folks who showed up to enjoy our work! This section is devoted to their recollections of the Festival. If you'd like to submit something, please email us. And please, SPREAD THE WORD!!

Trail Festival A Great Success
Rutland Herald, 8/20/08

This past weekend the Vermont State Fairgrounds in Rutland played host to the second annual Rutland Long Trail Festival, and it was sensational. Hikers who camped on the grounds as well as visitors from around this area found a clean, quiet, open expanse to enjoy the camaraderie and local musicians, play on the wide lawn, share ideas and information, reunite with other hikers from the trail, and rejuvenate and resupply in this beautiful setting in the midst of Vermont's mountains.

It was like a scene from an earlier time. Children and adults were flying kites, tossing bean bags, playing croquet, and shooting Frisbees on the wide, green lawn. And all the while, one could see the majestic mountains surrounding this area. It was awe-inspiring, a sight we, or at least I, often tend to take for granted so I appreciate the reminder of the beauty of my hometown.

I know a lot of people put a lot of effort and time into this event, which was free of charge to anyone who wanted to visit. Many local vendors and others lent their financial support, as was noted in the festival's program, to help make this come off so successfully. And of course the fairgrounds itself, so clean and green and well kept, was a welcoming location. Thank you to everyone who made this worthwhile event happen.

Good morning Wayne and Kathleen,

I just want to put in writing how wonderful the Festival was, a superb antidote to the malaise that often surrounds Rutland.
I'm also well aware that a few of you worked your fannies off to make this happen (just as I & a few others continue to do the same with the Coop, and others with their chosen venues). I hope your vendors found it worth their effort and that you're full of new ideas for next year. I remember when Solarfest was tiny, sure do hope for the same with this one I'm spreading the word. If youre in debt let me know and I'll add [snipped].

With love, Annabelle
